I have climbed many mountains in my life, but the most difficult one is the mental and emotional mountain I struggle to summit every day. We each have unique individual experiences that are profoundly affected by our unseen emotional outlook. Mental health can color the world miraculous! But mental illness can conjure unimaginable challenges into existence. Without communicating—connecting—it it is impossible to know how your fellow man is feeling. We must have human connections to lift us up over the boulders we encounter on our life’s path. Reaching out with a simple hello, or a smile, could light up the trail for someone who has lost their way. Talk therapy, cognitive exercises and medications can provide “trail gear” that enable us to reach higher emotional ground and see further than we could on our own. But the most important tools we use on our journey through life, the safety equipment, are the social links we create with the people around us. One step up, and another, and another, and a hand held, and a foothold secured, and a reach further than you thought you could---you’re climbing! Please help us find more ways to help our fellow man to climb. Please consider donating to the Hike for Mental Health. The summit is glorious!
