Back packing on backcountry trails, my new found passion, helps me re-connect with nature and with places within myself that gets obscured in the daily hustle and bustle. A few days in the solitude of the trail helps ground me and preserve my overall mental well being.
For people battling mental illness, however, the path to mental health is rarely so simple. Mental illness affects more families than you probably realize, leaving those who suffer from it, and their families, searching for answers, cures and treatments that will allow them to experience the simple joy of living. In my own life, at the beginnign of this year, I lost my father to complications associated with Alzheimers Disease. He was a life-long sufferer of depression as well before being diagnosied with Alzheimer's approxiamtely 8-years ago. The more we know about the brain and mental illness the better we unsderstanf prevention and treatment, and that is why I'm asking you to join me in contributing to brain reasearch for mental health.
In a few short weeks, on August 17th, 2019 I will begin an 8-day Hiking trip around Mont Blanc. The Tour du Mont Blanc or TMB circles the Mont Blanc massif, covering a distance of roughly 170 kilometres with 10 kilometres of ascent/descent and passes through parts of Switzerland, Italy and France. This is another adventure of a lifetime for which I feel blessed and fortunate that I'm physically and mentally capable of such an experience.
