For me, spending long periods of time in the wilderness has been very beneficial for improving my mental health. I first expierenced the true, full, healing power of nature while spending 3 months in the Blue Ridge mountains at a Wilderness Therapy program. In 2017 I set out to hike the pacific crest trail, i spent about 4 months on the trail and hiked approximately 1300 miles. I gained lots of lessons and learned a lot about myself during that time. This year my goal is start where I left off, in Belden CA and finish the rest of the trail all the way to Canada. Backpacking has helped me grow as a person, it's helped me learn and pratice the tools i need to be happy and healthy. Mental Health is one of the main reasons I hike.  Hiking has helped me so much, this time I want to try help other people too.  During my journey this summer I will be recording audio of interviews and conversations i have with hikers and other interesting people I meet along the way. At the end of my trip, I will edit and compile all of these interviews, along with pictures, into a cohesive project. I will send anyone who donates any amount, a copy of the project once it has been completed.

Thanks so much!

ABOUT Pacific Crest Trail

1 in 4 families is affected by mental illness.

I chose to make HIKE for Mental Health a part of my Pacific Crest Trail hike so I can raise funds for a great cause and reduce the stigma of mental illness.

HIKE for Mental Health is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded on the vision of a world in which everyone, including those who suffer mental illness, can find the simple joy of living.

Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of those afflicted by mental illness, eliminate the associated stigma, and to foster responsible use of wilderness trails.

As an all-volunteer organization, we distribute 100% of contributions raised by our hikers.

  • 80 cents from every dollar funds scientific research to prevent, cure, and treat mental illness
  • 20 cents maintains and preserves wilderness trails
