June 5, 2016 • Placerita Nature Center • Newhall, CA

Hike along a shady creek through oak and chaparral woodland between tall granite canyon walls...
Enjoy a diversity of plant and animal life native to the canyon...
Choose your hike - an easy woodland path or more challenging terrain with fantastic vistas...
Placerita Canyon is a fun place for family and friends to come together, picnic, hike and enjoy all that nature has to offer. The entire natural area reflects a wide diversity of plants and animals, and is rich in history.

Our hike will begin at the picnic area near the Placerita Canyon Nature Center. Check-in starts at 7:45 AM. The hike begins at 8 AM sharp.

One group will follow the Canyon Trail upstream on Placerita Creek then take the Waterfall Trail through shady Los Piñetos Canyon to the foot of a seasonal 15 foot waterfall. The round trip is about 5 miles (shown in red on the map below) and suitable for beginners.

The moderate/advanced group will follow Canyon Trail to Los Piñetos Trail (yellow on the map) to Firebreak Road. The 9 mile round trip offers more challenging terrain but also more rewarding views.

See amazing pictures from past years' hikes.

This hike is a great way to meet new friends, enjoy the natural beauty minutes from Santa Clarita, and support a great local organization. Twenty percent of the money raised will benefit the Placerita Canyon Nature Center.

For a Good Cause

HIKE for Mental Health is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

All contributions to this hike are tax deductible, and 100% of the hike donations support our mission.

Eighty cents of every dollar funds mental health programs, including break-through scientific research into PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar spectrum disorders, depression and other major mental ilnesses. Through research we can find better ways to alleviate the suffering that affects 1 in 4 American families.

The remaining twenty cents maintains wilderness trails across the U.S. By supporting non-profit, volunteer groups that care for our trails, we help preserve wilderness experiences for generations to come. Where the money goes.
