As most of you know, I have long struggled with severe mental illness, mostly severe major depression, anxiety, and PTSD (though if I listed them all like titles after my name my list would be much longer). Mental illness is a tough road, like any chronic, invisible illness. I have good days and bad days..sometimes I have even worse days. It's been almost 4 years since my last psych hospitalization, but I see two therapists a week and my psychiatrist once a month.
It's exhausting.
Hiking is one of the few places I find a reprieve, one of the places I am best able to.seek for peace.
My goal is to hike 31 miles this month. A mile for each day. Best Border Collie and I did 3.5 today.
Please consider tossing a few dollars toward this organization if you have them to spare, and help make the world just a little bit kinder and a little bit more understanding.
1 in 4 families is affected by mental illness.
I chose to join #hikeOctober to raise awareness of the challenges of mental illness, fund mental health research and conserve wilderness trails with our #hikeOctober campaign.
