Greetings from somewhere off the grid! I did my first "thru-hike" 30 years ago on the Long Trail in Vermont. Since then, I have logged quite a few miles including my recent completion of the Appalachian Trail last July. During my AT trek, I shared shelters, diners, hostels, and prime dirt with some extraordinary people from all walks of life including a large number of folks doing their best to hike off emotional struggles, PTSD, addiction, post military deployment challenges, depression, and/or other obstacles impeding positive mental health. After meeting Co-Founder of HIKE For Mental Health Tom Kennedy on the trail and learning of his organization's wonderful mission, I decided to post my upcoming June 2018, 30th Anniversary Long Trail hike from North Adams, MA to Canada (273 miles) in hopes of raising money for HIKE for Mental Health.  Any contribution to support this worthy cause is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!!

ABOUT My HIKE for Mental Health

1 in 4 families is affected by mental illness.

I am taking a HIKE for Mental Health so I can raise funds for a great cause, reduce the stigma of mental illness, and help preserve wilderness trails.

HIKE for Mental Health is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded on the vision of a world in which everyone, including those who suffer mental illness, can find the simple joy of living.

Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of those afflicted by mental illness, eliminate the associated stigma, and to foster responsible use of wilderness trails.

As an all-volunteer organization, we distribute 100% of contributions raised by our hikers.

  • 80 cents from every dollar funds scientific research to prevent, cure, and treat mental illness
  • 20 cents maintains and preserves wilderness trails

Your donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the IRS. Thank you for your support.
